Concrete Loop had the opportunity to hit up one of Kendrick Lamar‘s Metro PCS / Hot 97-sponsored shows at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom on Tuesday night (February 26). The 25-year-old gave a simple and light-hypnotizing show, with just a DJ, a mic and high, cool energy to turn up the crowd.
The Compton-native performed a mixture of songs like “Cut You Off (To Grow Closer)” from his mixtape Overly Dedicated to “A.D.H.D.,” an uptempo track off of his first studio album Section.80. He also performed his verse off A$AP Rocky’s single, “F*ckin’ Problems.” But of course, Lamar topped the night off with performances of fan-favorites, “Poetic Justice” and “Swimming Pool (Drank).” Although we attended the first show, Lamar had a second show immediately after where he brought out 50 Cent, Tony Yayo, A$AP Rocky and Schoolboy Q.
Check out the entire concert in the USTREAM video above. If you’re thinking of seeing him live in concert, then it’s definitely worth it. Aside from there being no hype men in sight to annoyingly echo his lyrics, we were more surprised that his set started and ended relatively on time! That could be a first in hip-hop history! Lol Great showmanship, Kendrick Lamar and kudos to you!
Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City is in stores now.
