Respected industry executive Chris Lighty died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Thursday (August 30th), and the news sent shockwaves throughout the hip hop community. Rappers, producers and music executives all shared their condolences and memories regarding Lighty, a reflection of how many lives he impacted over the course of his 25 years in the business.
"R.I.P. to my old friend "Chris Lighty". Tragedy has once again struck the music industry & this time it hit," rapper Game tweeted.
"R.I.P Chris Lighty.. A standup guy and cornerstone in this industry," shared Yung Joc. "You will be missed."
"When Chris lighty first heard me spit he went nuts. He took me straight to Lyor kohen's office & locked me in till I signed to defjam!" Shyne remembered. "I remember when I first went to def jam on varick st in soho to spit forChris lighty."

Big Daddy Kane also shared his condolences regarding Lighty's unexpected passing.
